Cinnamon-sugar pecans

1sugar pecans2DSC_00373DSC_00434DSC_0025DSC_0026This is a real Southern treat! I hope my family likes them because this is what I sent in the gift packages (see previous post)! I kept a few for us to enjoy and decidedly they make a yummy snack and are great in salads with a little feta cheese and vinagrete dressing.

Here’s how you make them (recipe adapted from

Ingredients: 2 cups of Pecan halves, 2 egg whites, 1/2 C white sugar, 1/2 C brown sugar, 1 Tbs cinnamon, 1 Tbs vanilla extract, pinch of salt.

1//Preheat oven to 250 degrees F (120 degrees C). Grease a baking sheet. In a medium bowl, whisk together the egg white and vanilla extract until frothy(this takes a minute or 2 by hand). In a separate bowl, mix together both sugars, salt, and cinnamon.

2//Add pecans to egg whites and stir to coat the nuts evenly. Stir in the sugar mixture until the nuts are coated. Spread the nuts on the baking sheet.

3//Bake at 250 for 1 hour. Stir every 15 minutes (so it won’t burn). When done, let them cool on the baking sheet.

4//Enjoy this tasty treat! My husband said it tastes like a mini pecan pie! Try using another type of nut if you like and if you do, let me know how it turned out! (Sorry the numbers and pictures don’t quite match up, but you get the picture!)
