Davines//love smoothing shampoo: I took this on my NY trip and left it at my hotel, but I got to use it several times and it became my second ever favorite shampoo due to its smell and the way it left my (dry, frizzy) hair feeling super soft and smooth. Would buy this at $24 full size for sure.

A ‘fabulous’ Birchbox

I’m still recieving my monthly Birchbox subscription and was really happy with this one-so happy that I ordered several full size versions of the amika hair mask and Beauty protector leave in treatment. My poor hair in summer just gets fried and frizzy! But I really do love these products for how soft they leave my hair. Anyways, how was your weekend? More on mine later, we had a super fun time in Dallas doing Dallas stuff in Dallas heat:) and a little relaxing by the pool of course. Have a nice Monday!DSC_0002 DSC_0003 DSC_0004 DSC_0001Amika//Mask…YUM!  I’m in love with this brand now.  My hair loves this and I have fine and wavy hair so it needs lots of moisture to get some definition and leave out the frizz.

Amika//Hair treatment…This stuff smells sooooo good!

Beauty protector//Leave in detangler….This is awesome! I bought the full size, love! I use the small one when I traveled to NY last week and love love.

Coola//Cucumber moisturizer…this is amazing stuff, it’s organic and smells great.  I will order the full size someday but it was like 45 bucks and I just bought a ton of sunscreen at Costco.

Isaac Mizrahi//Fabulous eau de parfum

Sumita//Color contrast Eyeliner

Birchbox (my last?)

IMG_6239 IMG_6240 IMG_6241 IMG_6243 IMG_6244SO I was considering stopping my subscription to Birchbox based on 2 things: 1. Sometimes I’m not so impressed because it seems like I got a very similar item the month before and 2. it’s $10 a month I could be saving towards our carribean vacation….

…But…I absolutely LOVED this month’s box and used up everything in it. Here’s what I got:

Miranesse//Glossy kiss lipstick.  Fun bright color, easy to use pencil, done, love.

Oribe//Shamp and Condish. Good for colored hair, smells amazing and loved how my hair felt and more importantly looked after using.  More please.

Skin&Co Roma//Body gel. Olive and orange scented gel made in Rome, sounds pretty fab to me. Loved the scent but pretty $$ for $18 a pop.

Supergoop!//SPF eye cream.  So I’ve been thinking about my skin care a lot more lately, getting dangerously close to 30 here.  This is nice and light cream with oat peptides to keep your skin firm.  I would consider adding this full time to my regimen for sure.

Kusmi Tea//Wellness Essentials.  I love tea. Love the cute packaging.

Also, a little bonus gift this month..Free subscription to Women’s health mag, yay for free!

I’ve been gardening

Today was delightfully productive in tackling my new goal: learn to garden.  We bought these gorgeous Knockout roses and an Azalea bush and I had to read up on gardening in dense-clay Texas soil, which doesn’t really seem at all like soil.  I mixed up some peat moss into gardening soil at a 25/75% ratio then filled in my holes about 4″ deep with it.  Once I placed the roses in the holes I filled them in with my mixture and topped it all off with mulch.  Our front now has some much needed color and lively plants and I can’t wait to keep learning about my new hobby! My makeup routine

As I was organizing this week I realized I have not one but two bathrooms full of products.  This was insane I felt so I had to go through and try to pick out just the items I actually use often.  This was way harder than it seems but essential to an organized bathroom.  This post is about a few of my daily essentials (and they fit in just one drawer)!

I’m just warning you that this first picture is me, no makeup (except some chapstick which I can’t live without this time of year) But this is how I look 90 percent of the time. This is even eyebrows gone wild.  Ok, Ok, I’m sure I’ll be more upset in 10 years when I turn 39.  I may or may not be having a I’m-turning-30 crisis….

I used the same routine on my wedding day as I do on normal days for the most part.  If I’m just doing errands then I stick to moisturizer+ SPF, mascara and lip balm.  For going out, date nights, and work/interviews I have this routine:

1//Aveeno tinted moisterizer.  If I were only able to pack one item, this would be it. It provides coverage and SPF, very important things.

2//Makeup forever liquid makeup. I only use this when my skin looks blotchy or uneven but not daily.  The bottle lasts forever and the makeup looks very natural on my skin.  Truthfully, this is the first and only kind of liquid makeup I’ve EVER bought and liked.  Previously, I only wore powder or tinted moisturizer and found that does the trick most of the time.

3//Tarte lipstick/blush + liner + eyeshadow primer/eyeshadow. I love Tarte.  Free of parabens and other icky things that are bad for you this is also quality stuff.  The eyeliner is awsomely smooth. Eye primer is essential especially on hot and humid days. The eyeshadow is natural and doesn’t crease (the only brand I’ve had that doesn’t!)

4//Two faced bronzer + blush

5//Makeup forever silk finisher. This stuff leaves your face looking smooth and healthy, love it.

6//Loreal mascara.  I switch the types I use but love the fat lash kinds.  Not sure if it’s worth it trying more expensive kinds.  I’d rather spend the $$ on SPF moisturizers and lipsticks!

I like to look natural but enhanced if that makes sense.  Sometimes I like to have really dramatic cat eyes and dark eyes + hot red or dark purple lips because it’s fun.  I love trying new lipstick colors but my go-to if I want drama is MAC lady danger (2nd to last picture). It’s fun and bright and energetic.  Just how I like to be.

My January Birchbox is juicy

DSC_0004 DSC_0005 DSC_0006 DSC_0007 DSC_0008Is it still January?  That’s what I asked the hubs today but we were pretty sure there was one more day…. That’s what its like working from home sometimes.  You just lose sense of time and days even.  It’s usually pretty wonderful not to be ruled by the clock.  Although today I just wish it were tomorrow.  No reason really, just one of those days.

I thought I took some pictures of my Birchbox this month but I can’t find them and I don’t feel like putting it all together again.  Here’s what they sent me this month:

1//DDF Wrinkle resist pore minimizer.  I love this just for the silky smooth feel of it on my skin…and I like the idea of you not seeing my pores that I tend to fuss over..$85 for a full bottle…umm yikes!

2//Juicy Couture Viva la Juicy.  La-UV-e this! Always wanted to buy me a bottle of this one but I tend to get sneezy wearing too much perfume…ugh. Vday prez?

3//Keratase Elixir Ultime…a hair oil in a tiny wee bottle…a few drops and my hair looks more relaxed, smooth and smells delish!  But $54 for a full bottle..pleez and no thank you.

4//theBalm cosmetics Hot Mama..2 in one blush/highlighter in a shell pink/golden color. LOVE it.  Might actually buy a full version for $20, we’ll see.

5//Keratase Nurtrive thermique…a leave in cream that I haven’t used yet…

Thanks for stoppin in and thanks to my cat Orangey for modeling the Birchbox, um,  Box.

December beauty birchbox

date nightbboxdecI got my December birchbox in the mail and I was super excited to open it up.  This is such a fun thing to get every month in part because it’s a total surprise and in part because I don’t even have to make a decision on what to buy!

1//Chuao Chocolatier chocopod in salted chocolate crunch, my fave flavor ever!

2//Aerie Shimmer frangrance, a super light and sweet but not overpowering peony and vanilla scent-love!

3//Mox botanicals pomegranate and fig lip butter. Cute packaging and love that they use avocado oil and nautual shea butter.

4//Eyeko skinny liquid eyeliner in Olive. Goes on lightly and smoothly; a pretty natural color for winter. I wore it out on our date night(see above pic:)

5//Number 4 clarifying shampoo. Haven’t tried it yet but they claim it’s a low-sudsing shampoo that won’t strip your hair of natural oils-sounds good to me!

They also sent me a $50 gift card to Rent the runway which is a pretty neat idea…You rent designer dresses and jewelry, like Bagdley Mischka, for $100 or so, and just send the outfit back in the bag they send with it–no dry cleaning, no worries about ever wearing it again.

If you like this stuff visit where they also have articles and tutorials on how to use their products.  (I’m not getting paid for this btw, just saying)

Happy Holidays, from Jess.
