DIY Bachelorette party sash & veil

My sister got married last weekend (!!!) and it was amazing.  I can’t believe how grown up and gorgeous she was and what a beautiful day it turned out to be.  As they are honeymooning in St. Lucia I’m back in home life and you guessed it, blogging life!  The bloggy bug has hit me again so for my first post in December 2013 I’ll show  you how I made a bachelorette sash and veil for my sister’s party.

IMG_8876Supplies: glittery gold cardstock, scissors, craft glue, 5″ white ribbon, sewing machine, thread.  First, I used a pretty cursive font and printed out “Bride to be” on paper. I taped this to my card stock and carefully cut it out.  You may use an exacto knife and cutting pad but I didn’t have these around. It took a little time but turned out so pretty.
IMG_9033For the sash I measured a length around myself going from shoulder to hip then sewed a diagonal line so it would lay down on the hip.IMG_9035I layed out my letters where they would read correctly from the front (using a mirror with the sash on helped me find the right side) then glued them down. IMG_8878IMG_9040I also cut out two hearts and glued them on.IMG_9037Making sure it was reading correctly…IMG_9039And wrapped up nicely for my sister to open.IMG_9046Supplies for the veil: duck or other hair clip, tulle, string of beads, ribbon, small piece of felt, faux flowers, hot glue and gun.  I first cut 4 or so lengths of tulle, 5 or so pieces of ribbon, and 3 string of beads each of about 2.5 feet in length and tied them together at the top using a bit of string.  I glued a circle of felt to the duck clip and glued the tulle to the felt.
IMG_9047I then glued 3 faux flowers to the top of her veil and there you have it, a simple and super cute gift for the bachelorette! I had to try it on because I really wanted to be the bachelorette, hee hee.

One year blog anniversary

This month marks the one year anniversary of my blog (woo hoo) and I’ve actually run out of space, thus the infrequent posts here lately.  I’ll be working on getting more file space soon so I can keep posting about stuff I’m lovin’.  Thanks to you guys who read and check in with my little blog; it really does keep me going!  Here are some of my favorite posts from this last year:

I just think it’s such an incredibly useful skill to have.  Cheers to whatever comes next! JessicaDSC_0261 _Snapseed

Top 10 posts from my 1st 100

I’ve blogged 100 posts people!  Can’t really believe I’ve stuck with it for this long.  I mean, I’m just kinda always onto new things all the time. Sometimes I swear I have a bit of ADD; just look at my house right now, I have 3 walls/doors that are halfway painted, 5 chairs I’m refinishing in the garage, and an entire room devoted to my crafts that is an absolute MESS I say!  Plus I’m constantly rearranging and moving art/furniture, ect.  But this blog…it’s a getaway for me.  I like it.  I like that you are reading this too, and sometimes sharing your thoughts with me and pressing the “like” button; and wordpress sends it to my email that someone took the time to do that.   So thanks for your time.

These posts are the top 10 most viewed posts out of the 100 I’ve done so far (technically this is the 101st post!)  In no particular order, thanks for looking again.rustic wreath

I love that the top 10 are a mix of crafts, recipes, drinks and just pictures.  For a while I thought maybe only the recipes are getting attention but that doesn’t seem to be the case at all.

Like today is rainy so I’m just going to take it easy, maybe start a new book…

I just finished reading Water for Elephants and to be honest I couldn’t put it down (I guess I’m not the book snob I thought I was)…

Any recommendations for a good read?
